Tackle Your Quarterback
Tackling T.D. Jakes
When the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl in 2020 for the first time in 50 years, I reconnected with my home team. With their win over Buffalo on 1/24/2021, they are ready to #RunItBack for a second time in a row. Now the title, “Tackle Your Quarterback,” is anathema to the whole idea of winning a Super Bowl. You want to tackle the other team’s quarterback to keep him from throwing a game winning touchdown pass—not your own. Originally I was going to call it “Tackle TD Jakes,” the great black pastor from Dallas. But I didn’t want to put him in any danger. I had a dream on 6/12/2019 in which TD Jakes played an integral part and I tackled him. Let me share with you the entire dream and its interpretation.
I was walking down a street in Van Nuys, California when I came upon a man attacking a woman I’ve known for over 35 years. After fighting him off, we later saw him and had him arrested. I went to a church meeting in that area. As I left the meeting, it was raining very hard. Someone offered to drive me to my car which was very far away; however, we couldn’t find it.
In the next scene, we are at the police station and we both pick the same man out of the line-up whom we thought was the attacker. As I was leaving the station, another man came up to me and said, “You think you picked the right man; however, the man who attacked your friend was much more muscular than the man you chose. You should re-consider.” It was now evening and I was walking across a vacant lot to go to Church’s Chicken. A big black man walked up and was to my right. I thought he looked like T.D. Jakes but I didn’t say anything. As I started giving my order, the big black man started praying for me and that’s when I knew it was T.D. Jakes. I turned around as he was walking away so I ran after him and tackled him and asked him to pray for me again.
The next day I was in a clothing store being fitted for a suit. There were two people there—a woman and that big black man, T.D. Jakes. I looked at him and said, “I’m the man who tackled you in that vacant lot last night. Would you pray for me?”
The area in Van Nuys has declined over the years. My friend who was attacked was cheated on by her husband in real life; however, her attacker was not her ex. I prayed for her while we were purchasing a townhouse for her, my spiritual responsibility for my clients does not end with the closing of an escrow.
The church in that area is starting to grow in spite of the decline. The rain signifies the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. No one can drive you to your destiny, hence we could not find my car. You have to do it yourself. You will have help but your help is not your source. God is your source.
The police line-up shows things are not always as they appear on the surface. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you and give you insight. The vacant lot will soon become the site of a great church as evidenced by T.D. Jakes being there and me going to “Church’s Chicken.”
When T.D. Jakes began to pray for me, I recognized my need to partner with people who have similar visions for helping the hurting people in the world. Tackling him was like Jacob wrestling with the Angel of the Lord. Just like Jacob, I wanted Mr. Jakes’ blessing and prayers.
New clothes symbolize the new authority I am starting to walk in and T.D. Jakes is an apostolic representative to release me into my calling. T.D. Jakes produces faith based movies, which are also a part of my calling.
To wrap this up, I need to be very clear about this dream and its interpretation:
- Do NOT call up T.D. Jakes office and ask him to pray for you.
- And for safety’s sake, DO NOT TACKLE THE MAN.
- I have never met T.D. Jakes and as far as I know he has never prayed for me.
- I recognized in the dream my need for partnership with someone who carries an apostolic anointing. I have that and see no need to finagle a way of meeting T.D. Jakes. God will bring the people you need into your life in the right timing. Trust Him.
- The bible says in Proverbs 18:16 “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.” Therefore, if there is a T.D. Jakes-type of person God intends to partner with you, your gift will make a way for you to be brought before him/her.
In closing, tackle your quarterback which means to me get close to the people who believe as you do and want to change the world.
I believe the woman with the issue of blood, “tackled the quarterback,” i.e., Jesus when she touched the hem of his garment or Prayer shawl as it notes in the Passion Translation Matthew 9:20-21.
Suddenly, a woman came from behind Jesus and touched the tassel of his prayer shawl for healing. She had been suffering from continual bleeding for twelve years, but had faith that Jesus could heal her. 21 For she kept saying to herself, “If I could only touch his prayer shawl I would be healed.”
Jesus is your quarterback—tackle him!
And Patrick Mahomes, #RunItBack in 2021!
